Dave Goldblum
Regarded by many musicians as one of South Africa's best songwriters, Dave is a virtuoso finger-style guitarist. He was a regular at the Festival in the Nineties, and now makes a welcome return. Listen to Vusi Mahlasela at the World Cup opening concert, for he will perform one of Dave's songs, Say Africa, that has become a staple of his shows recently. You'll like Dave if you like guitar-based folk-rock with and African twist.
Anton Calitz
Anton is no stranger to the Festival, having performed here regularly since 1992. Very much in the singer-songwriter mould of Dylan and Rodriguez, Anton's songs often have a satirical edge to them, and he employs mouth organ and guitar to great effect along with an exceptionally powerful voice. You'll like Anton if you like Dylan / Springsteen / Jeff Buckly.
William Pinnock
The elusive and seldom-seen frontman of the deceased PE Band Special Agents, William's powerful, spectacular voice is alone reason enough to see him perform. You'll like William if you like Radiohead / Nirvana / REM / Pearl Jam.
Tim Hopwood
Acclaimed photographer Tim Hopwood's foray into music comes to the Festival. Tim has taken people by surprise with his lyrically intriguing songs of loss, love and death. Now he throws in a few funny ones too, in the vein of David Kramer. You'll like Tim if you like Leonard Cohen / Nick Drake / Nick Cave.
John Dickin
On returning to PE from the UK, John has gained a following amongst fans of acoustic guitar music for his exceptional playing ability and smooth mellow sound. If you love seeing a guitar played well, you'll be awed by John. You'll like John if you like Nick Drake / John Martyn / Bon Iver
Andrew Osborne
Andrew is new on the music scene in PE and has been wowing fans of live acoustic music lately with his mellow style, to-die-for voice, and intense performances. You'll like Andrew if you like Bon Iver / Jeff Buckley / David Gray
Joe van der Linden
One of the famous van der Linden brothers. A multi-talented guitarist equally at home on acoustic, electric or bass, Joe has performed with some of South Africa's best musicians. Here he presents his own diverse material. Will he play his kick-ass electric or will he mellow out with some laid-back reggae? You'll like Joe if you like Ben Harper / Jack Johnson / Hendrix
Kendell Beadon
Now Capetonian, Kendell was frontman for what some consider the best band to have ever emerged from PE, the now defunct Strange Little Man. An exceptionally skilled songwriter with an incredible voice reminiscent of Nick Cave crossed with Eddi Veder. You'll like Kendell if you like Radiohead / Pearl Jam / Nick Cave.
The Ha!Man
Francois le Roux, aka Ha!Man, needs no introduction to Festival audiences. All Francois' performances on cello are spontaneous and something incredible and beautiful to hear. You never get the same thing twice with the Ha!Man. Expect the unexpected, and be prepared to be wowed.
Dave Knowles
Dave is one of Grahamstown's most exciting young singer songwriters. Unusual, often quirky songs with influences from many styles of music. You'll like Dave if you like Jeff Buckly / Radiohead / Devendra Banhart |
